I could write pages on this issue. I'll try to keep it short and sweet. But if you want details, please feel free to call or email me. As a Mommy, I need your help!
The rights of parents to make decisions on behalf of their own children are at risk. If you don't have small children at the moment, I'll just tell you that it's true. It's happening close to home.
Thankfully, we are still a democracy where people's voices are heard and can make a difference.
There's a growing movement to pass a Parental Rights Amendment, which would establish the parents' fundamental right to bring up their children as they see fit (as long as there is no abuse or neglect, of course). This amendment is more critical now than ever.
If the US ratifies a UN treaty called the Convention on the Rights of the Child, we can kiss our parental rights goodbye. Check out the General Comments from the panel of "experts" at the UN on how this treaty is interpreted, and you'll see what I mean. Despite how the media might spin this treaty, it's dangerous. I don't know about you, but I don't want the government dictating to me, as a fit parent, what is best for my children.
Please go to parentalrights.org and sign the petition in favor of the amendment. Check out more on the site to see examples of the danger we are in of losing our freedoms as parents. Contact your congressmen and senators to encourage them to sponsor the amendment.
My generation had freedom handed to us on a silver platter. I'm just starting to see that if we don't stand and speak up, we risk losing it.
